Rules

This competition is AHA sanctioned and open to any amateur homebrewer age 21 or older. Professional brewers are also welcome as long as their beer is brewed on a home-system and not a professonal system.

This competition is open to ALL beer, mead and cider represented in the 2015 BJCP categories and sub-categories.

All entries shall consist of three 12oz or 350 ml, crown-capped bottles (no swing-tops). This is strictly for uniformiity so we can stack cases of equal size in our refrigeration trailer. We are unable to make exceptions. NOTE: Attach bottle labels with rubber bands only; DO NOT tape or glue labels to the bottle!

Make sure you designate the proper drop-off location on the pull-down when you enter your beer(s) on the registration page. Mark your beers' box or container "COHO Spring Fling" since many drop-off locations are accepting beers for several compeititions.

Entry fee is $7 (USD) per entry.

All mailed entries must be received at The Brew Shop in Bend, the shipping drop-off location, by the entry deadline - please allow for shipping time (the shipping deadline is approx. 1 week prior to the entry deadline).

All entries will be picked up from drop-off locations the day of the entry deadline, April 16th, at noon.

All entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public, and made using private equipment by hobbyist brewers (i.e., no use of commercial facilities or Brew on Premises operations, supplies, etc.).

This competition will be utilizing the BJCP 2015 Guidelines.

The competition organizers are not responsible for mis-categorized entries, mailed entries that are not received by the entry deadline, or entries that arrived damaged.

The competition organizers reserve the right to combine styles for judging and to restructure awards as needed depending upon the quantity and quality of entries.

Qualified judging of all entries and feedback to the entrants is the primary goal of our event. Judges will evaluate and score each entry. The average of the scores will rank each entry in its category. Each flight will have at least one BJCP judge.

Brewers are not limited to one entry in each category but may only enter each subcategory once. For example, participants may enter a Belgian Blond (25A) and Belgian Saison (25B), but may not enter two Saisons, even if they are different brews (e.g. light & dark Saison). The exception to this rule is category 21B, Specially IPA, and category 27, Historical Beer, since each has, in essence, multiple sub-categories. Additionally, Historical Beer is not limited to those listed in the BJCP guidelines; however, if the Historical Beer is not listed, the brewer MUST describe the style perameters so it may be properly judged.

The competition committee reserves the right to combine categories based on the number of entries in each category. All possible effort will be made to combine similar styles. All brews in combined categories will be judged according to the style they were originally entered in.

The Best of Show judging will be determined by a Best of Show panel based on a second judging of the top winners.

COHO logoed medals with neck lanyards will be given to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishers; Best of Show (BOS) will receive a plaque in addition to the respective gold medal; BOS runner-up, Second runner-up & highest scoring entry will all receive ribbons plus their respective medals.

Generally, bottles will not be returned to entrants; contact Doug Jordan if you want your bottles returned.

Silver Moon Brewing
24 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend, OR 97701
Silver Moon Brewing
Silver Moon Brewery has a profound history with Bend, Oregon. What started as Bend’s first brew shop evolved into Bend’s 3rd local brewery and tasting room, as well as the only brewery that doubled as a speakeasy. As residents of Bend know, friendships are born at brew events. It was at a craft beer event in 2009 that former owner Tyler Reichart met Matt Barrett and James Watts. Over time, an idea was planted and formulated. Soon after, Matt and James turned a small dream to solid reality by becoming the new owners of Silver Moon Brewery. Matt and James plan to honor the grounded roots of Silver Moon by continuing to brew extraordinary beer, hosting local music, and celebrating the people that made the pub what it is today. The trio took over the brewery in July 2013, bringing with them a branding which signifies the new lunar phase in Silver Moon’s journey. And while Matt and James are planning a modest remodel of the taproom, they will keep the music scene alive as well as continue to explore the art of craft brewing. They are also excited to give back to the community by being involved in local non-profits, hosting the Battle of the Brews homebrew competition each October and have donated $100 toward Spring Fling.
