24 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend, OR 97701Silver Moon Brewery has a profound history with Bend, Oregon. What started as Bends first brew shop evolved into Bends 3rd local brewery and tasting room, as well as the only brewery that doubled as a speakeasy. As residents of Bend know, friendships are born at brew events. It was at a craft beer event in 2009 that former owner Tyler Reichart met Matt Barrett and James Watts. Over time, an idea was planted and formulated. Soon after, Matt and James turned a small dream to solid reality by becoming the new owners of Silver Moon Brewery. Matt and James plan to honor the grounded roots of Silver Moon by continuing to brew extraordinary beer, hosting local music, and celebrating the people that made the pub what it is today. The trio took over the brewery in July 2013, bringing with them a branding which signifies the new lunar phase in Silver Moons journey. And while Matt and James are planning a modest remodel of the taproom, they will keep the music scene alive as well as continue to explore the art of craft brewing. They are also excited to give back to the community by being involved in local non-profits, hosting the Battle of the Brews homebrew competition each October and have donated $100 toward Spring Fling.

37 NW Lake Pl. Bend ORIn 2010, Boneyard Beer was started in an old auto shop tucked away in the backstreets of Bend, Oregon’s historical district. Without any outside investors or major bank loans, Boneyard’s inception was unconventional to say the least. After decades in the brewing industry, owner Tony Lawrence built up a “boneyard” of old equipment he collected from 13 different breweries around the country. Alongside co-founders, Clay and Melodee Storey, this second-hand brewing equipment was pieced together to brew the first batch of Boneyard Beer in May 2010. As Boneyard has grown, the initial fermenters have been replaced with shiny new ones, but the original, refurbished 20-barrel system is still the one Boneyard uses today. The current brewing system, with it’s capacity of 15,000 barrels per year, allows Boneyard to distribute draft beer in Oregon and Washington. To date, Boneyard has brewed 17 different beers and is currently in the process of a major expansion. The new facility, approximately 15,000 sq feet, is home to the new production facility and employee offices. The new facility adds much needed capacity for Boneyard. In keeping with the theme, the 40 BBL brewhouse purchased for the new facility is second-hand. The new facility will allow Boneyard to brew upwards of 45,000 barrels per year when at max capacity. But, as things change, the focus remains the same: balanced, hoppy beers.
63063 Layton Avenue, Bend, OregonTwo friends, Trever Hawman and Rod Kramer, decided to turn in their carpenters belts and follow their passion by starting a small batch brewery using eco-friendly methods and the freshest, local ingredients. What started out as a hobby, quickly grew into a full-blown obsession for crafting fresh, "more drinkable" microbeer. The positive response and overwhelming demand for their brews pushed them to expand into their new facility and tasting room at 63063 Layton Avenue, Bend, Oregon. Keeping it local, staying humble and using sustainable practices to create the best tasting beer are the priorities at Bridge 99 Brewery. It starts with using fresh , local hops from Tumalo Hop Company in Central Oregon. After the brewing process, spent grain, hops and yeast are sent to a local ostrich rancher rather than going into the landfill. Also, rather than sending grain wastewater down the drain and into our rivers, it is collected in large totes and used as nutrient-rich fertilizer on a local farm. Where did the name Bridge 99 Brewery come from? Wanting to build a brand around something unique to the region, along with "99 bottles of beer on the wall" singing in their heads, the two set out to find a name. The search was over almost as quickly as it began when they remembered a local US Forest Service landmark, Lower Bridge - also referred to as "Bridge 99" - that crosses the Metolius River near Camp Sherman, Oregon.

2940 NE Smith Rock Way, Terrebonne, OR 97760Our story starts with a Christmas party in December of 2013 where three individuals meet over delicious craft beer. Two of them were relatively new to Central Oregon, were farmers at heart, and were looking for a new adventure. The third…well he possessed a love of craft beer and a thirst for knowledge. A challenge was declared: discover all that there is to know about starting and running a hop farm, including marketing and sales to local brewers, in less than three months. We began in earnest, contacting every hop grower in Oregon that we could find. Lucky for us…they all responded. We learned the most from the wonderful owners of Tumalo Hop Farm, Gary & Susan Wyatt. Their generosity would set us down a path of sharing everything we would learn along the way with others starting their own hop journey. And with that, Smith Rock Hop Farm was officially started in the spring of 2014…an energetic and enthusiastic addition to the local Central Oregon hop growing industry. Or first season we would see 14 feet of plant growth and a harvest of 25 pounds of fresh Cascade and Centennial cones. The entire lot was used by Worthy Brewing of Bend and Wild Ride Brewing of Redmond to create a collaboration fresh hop beer named Worth Wild. After eight months of work, it was extremely satisfying to hand pick hops, see them used in the brewing process within 24 hours, and then within just over a week have a pint of delicious craft beer in hand! We continue to grow the hop farm by planning new acreage and new hop varieties, and hope to be close to six full acres by 2017.
